In other news, Sirius radio... how do I put this... It's kind of like mainstream Top40 stations, only without the sense of spontaneity, mischevous fun and adventurous, original programming. Yeah, I know, they have Howard Stern and a whole bunch of other stars, but the music, the music... They have taken the idea of "genre" stations to its depressing, soul-draining extreme, where they only play the glossy, sanitized "hits" of each type of music, hardly ever venturing outside the few "safe" artists and tracks, with the ensuing skull-drilling playlist repetitions. They don't even have the decency to have static and broadcast problems like FM, so you get flawless, 24/7 reception of the same swill that will just keep pouring in until someone turns off the receiver. I work at a place where they use Sirius for background music (incidentally, that's the only use for a Sirius subscription I can conceive of - corporate background filler), and a 10-hour shift with the smooth jazz station crooning mellowly into one's ear is enough to crush a man's spirit. There are only so many times one can hear the same fucking lite jazz hit without wanting to bash someone's face into a bloody, bubbling mess. And they say heavy metal is the Devil's music.
